Toddlers are curious little balls of energy that never seem to stop moving (until they collapse for a nap). Not only is this stage extremely fun, but also crucial as your child’s teeth begin to come in. We’ll make sure you know what to expect, and we’ll also work to protect their little “smile soldiers” as they make their grand appearance. Toddler Teeth Development

Typically, the first teeth to appear are the front two in the bottom. This can occur between six months and one year of age, and from there, the teeth tend to appear in pairs until age three when there are about 20. Of course, the journey is different for each child, and if you have any questions about what should be happening and when, you can always reach out to us.

What is Teething?

Teething is the process where the primary(baby) teeth are pushing on your child’s gums as they erupt. This can cause quite a bit of oral soreness and tenderness, which leads to a very grumpy (and vocal) child. It can be stressful for the entire household, but we can offer a long list of tips and tricks to soothe your child’s mouth and mind while ensuring their teeth come in without issue. Be sure to give us a call even if you just need to vent!

How to Clean Your Toddler’s Teeth and Gums

When the teeth appear, it’s time to start brushing! You should ideally brush your child’s teeth twice a day using a rice-sized portion of toothpaste, and as soon as they have two teeth that touch, you can begin flossing as well. You want your child to be encouraged to brush as they get older, so try to make the experience fun. To help them become more familiar with the routine, it’s wise to brush after every meal and snack at the beginning. Just make sure you’re using a child-size brush and a flavor of toothpaste that doesn’t cause them to make a funny face.
